Experimenting with CGI Imagery Leads to Cost Savings and Benefits
With the use of 3D models we were able to get more economical and accurate images of products in all types of settings and scenarios. This is even more advantageous in commercial settings where the setting may not be the most photo-ready. We saw an 87.5% savings going from $40,000 photo shoots to $5000 CGI scenes
Problem
Our lifestyle photography was costing upwards of $40,000+ per shoot to build out a full set, have a plumber do an accurate “rough plumbing” of the product and then also hire talent. These shoots would take all day and would also just be for one scene.
Solution
With 3D imagery we are able to create more lifestyle images at a more economical cost, and create “picture perfect” installs in all sorts of settings and scenarios.
Key Takeaways
3D imagery made changes and “reshoots” from different angles easy because it would just require opening a file and changing the camera angle. Often times we could use the same scene and change the prop staging virtually to create a completely different scene. This would essentially yield double the amount of images based off just one scene. 3D images also allowed us to get ahead of marketing with preproduction CAD files. Whereas before we would have to wait for the final production product to come in for photography which would hold up the marketing workflow.
